*Free Rune Readings*

I'd like to up my runic divination game, so I am now offering free weekly divinations! So far I've mostly just divined for myself, and just use a simple 3 rune reading. I've been doing it for a number of years now, and reading for other people seems like the natural next step. As I'm just starting this, the only payment that I'll ask is for a report of how the reading corresponded to the real life situations.

Divination

Yes please! I do a three-rune draw every morning to get a whiff of what energies are on my dance card. I claim no special ability, but doing this for a few years has produced enough hits that I keep at it.

My mom has a bad gastro problem, and my question is will it begin to resolve in a positive direction this week.

We can compare draws! I won’t know the outcome until Saturday.

Thanks for offering to do this!

Thanks! I’m so glad elhaz is in the mix! If kenaz is point to the right, in my readings anyway, that may indicate inflammation, which would totally fit with her condition.

The runes I drew: perthro, eiwaz, and manaz. Perthro was upright, eiwaz is transition/change no matter the orientation, but manaz was tipped to the 3:00 position, so not clear, heading into “lack of support” territory. I drew a fourth rune for clarification and got sowilo.

This all seems to add up to cautious optimism: She’s willing to take a gamble on a telehealth consult with a gastroenterologist, who will likely have advice, but it may or may not be of help.

Fingers crossed! Will let you know what shakes out.

Thanks again!

Update as promised: Looks like kenaz and inflammation sum up Mom’s situation this Saturday.

She did experience the awareness of dagaz and the protection of elhaz in an unexpected way, though: She was able to tell her doctor that she prefers to let nature take its course and just die. And that was heard respectfully. It is a blessing that she felt able to express herself like this on a culturally taboo topic, and that the doctor didn’t try to “fix” her.

Thanks again,
Valerie

My spiritual path has been stuck in a rut for some time, I've been uncertain what I should be doing, and perhaps worst of all for me, the link I had with the god I considered my patron for many years closed down (I suspect permanently, but leave open an ever narrowing window that I might be mistaken) and that really leaves me uncertain where to go. What do I need to do fix this situation and move forward?

It's definitely not a dry period of a plateau. I tried to keep the explanation brief, but it was more about taking a wrong turn very early on, needing to extract myself from it, finding the right way to go, and finding that I can't just pick up where I left off for some reason.

The part that sticks out right away is the first rune (after the edit that is, making me curious what prompted the change). My life situation was a gift from some god, a result of their direct interference, nothing I prayed for but a spontaneous act on their part; there is some reason to think, in spite of all the mistakes I made previously and all the dysfunction right now, the situation is actively being maintained. If and when this current trouble clears itself out, I would have the ability to focus on religion full time, like a hermit or a monk. That seems to be a highly unusual situation in the modern West, if I managed to get it I must be supposed to use it for something.

As for the rest of it. Keeping at work and duty might well be the solution, but the problem is that I have no idea what that work actually is. Probably something vaguely magical, since synchronicity brought me to JMG's sphere, but my attempts at combining some form of practice with some deity names/pantheons has not worked out yet. I haven't tried the Heathen Golden Dawn yet, but it's been hovering on my lift (by the way, thanks for picking the project up. Even if I never end up using it myself, being able to watch how a training program gets built is fascinating enough).

About joy, that's not the first time I've heard something to that effect, but easier said than done. No doubt, joy's absence is a big part of the problem that needs to be addressed.

Thank you for this, I will keep thinking on it.

Hi, I'm a fan of what you're doing with the Heathen Golden Dawn system you're working out. I may move in that direction eventually myself, but I'm committed to learning the regular Golden dawn system for now. If you'd do a general rune casting for me for the week, I'd be interested to see what turns up.

All right, I will take that into account, thank you. My partner is having (a fairly routine) surgery tomorrow, and I've been praying more often lately, so we will see what develops.

She's doing quite well and, since I have been supporting her emotionally through this trying time, I think she's considering marrying me, so I'd say your rune casting was a hit :)

Hi there!

Appreciate ypu offering the free rune reading Gullindagan. Currently, I'm trying to figure out which deities I should connect with devotionally. Would the norse pantheon be the one I should develop a prayer life too?

Interesting combination! Not quite sure what the referenced giving relationship/gift is but that gives me something to meditate on.

Before you began working with these deities, did you pour out mead or burn incense? I heard that was a pretty standard introduction for working with them

Thanks so much for your help!

Do you accept donations?

Thanks very much for your generous offer!

I teach at a university, and this is the first week of returning to in-person classes. I guess I would like to ask "what do I most need to know about to have a successful upcoming semester?"

(If it helps, I teach Business Communication - so, public speaking, writing, interpersonal communication).

Hmm, makes sense, and corresponds with some of what the Ogham has been telling me. I suspect most of the trouble will be due to difficulties of adjusting to going back to in-person and some other logistical issues (for example, since my course involves a lot of public speaking, we need to break out into small groups to give everybody a chance to speak within the time of a class session, but rooms of the right size have been hard to come by).

I'll keep you posted as I see more about how it goes, and thank you very much!

There was a lady; our mutual friends were trying to set us up but now looks like it won't happen.

Should I stop thinking about this and move on?

Thank you very much! This sounds correct.

What does Dagaz mean here?

Hi! It seems you don't use reversed runes in the readings you provide here? If I may ask - do you avoid reversals generally or just for this occasion? In both cases, could you elaborate your thoughts behind your choice?

I'm curious since I hesitated for while before I started into divination with the runes because of exactly that question. Finally, a MM session at ecosophia settled the question and from the moment of my first reading it was very clear, that including reversals into the reading was the right choice for me. Back when I used Tarot cards, reversals gave me a hard time, on the other hand and my whole grip on the system went out of the window when I thought it would be time to introduce reversals. I haven't done any Tarot reading after that experience so far.

Greetings,
Nachtgurke

Thanks for your reply! Using reversed runes came rather naturally (from the technical perspective) since I carved the runes on small wooden staves that I draw from a cloth bag. But it makes the readings more difficult to understand, I have to say. The mode of reading you describe strikes me as a very sensible approach, that I should integrate into my practice. I think especially geomantic readings will benefit quite strongly from this, since I usually have some trouble interpreting charts that perfect on a yes/no question but only with negative figures. Asking in this two-sided manner could help clarify things a little bit, I suppose. A very mathematical approach, in some way, since when you have to prove that A<=>B you need to prove A=>B and B=>A, too... now you have something like A=>R<=B.

Greetings, and good luck to you and your project here!

If I may jump in with another data point: I sometimes use reversals and sometimes do not, depending on the casting/reading method. When I do a three rune spread similar to what Gullindagan has done here, I tend not to use reversals. I shake the runes in my hands and then release them into a leather dice-rolling tray. Without looking, I choose three runes and place them face up in the positions for Urd, Verdhandi, and Skuld.

If I do a nine realms casting (from Thorsson's Runecaster's Handbook), on the other hand, I count face down runestaves as reversed/mirk. My staves are round, though, so they don't lend themselves very well to reading orientation any other way. I'm considering making a rectangular set for exactly that reason.

Another method I got from Thorsson is for yes/no questions: cast the runes onto a cloth and only count the ones that land where Midgard would be for a nine realms reading (a circle in the middle a little less than 1/3 of the width of the cloth). You count the number of staves face up and the number face down. If there are more face up, the answer is "yes", and if more face down, the answer is "no". If you'd like an understanding of why the answer is yes or no, the particular runes that came up face up/down can be looked at to gain insight.

Hope this helps!
