It seems like every day "religion" or "magic" for most people is just this sort of relating with the local spirits and ancestors. It's like we've lost that default human perception, and to me it is like forgetting the foundation. Of course, I don't agree with everything Rasmussen says, but he feels like a necessary foil to both folks like Crawford, and folks like Thorsson, and Krasskova.
